Transition is part of life for missionary kids—new countries, new schools, new seasons. It can be exciting, but also exhausting. Whether you’re about to move, just arrived, or are somewhere in between, here are a few ways to navigate transition with purpose and grace:
1. Name what you’re leaving.
Transitions involve loss, even if it’s mixed with joy. Take time to say goodbye to people, places, and routines. Write down what you’ll miss—and what you’re ready to let go of.
2. Find small anchors.
Bring a few familiar items with you (a favorite hoodie, a book, a snack). Build rhythms that make new places feel a little more like home: the same playlist, the same tea every night, a morning walk.
3. Let yourself feel.
Grief and excitement can exist at the same time. Give yourself space to feel both. Talk to someone who understands MK life, or journal what you’re experiencing.
4. Remember God’s faithfulness.
You’re not starting from scratch. The same God who met you in your last season is already present in this one.
